Japanese Red Maple Seeds for Sale

My most favorite pastime is propagating and cultivating Japanese Red Maple Trees. I just harvested 100's of seeds from my 20 year old "Bloodgood" and have made up packets for those that may be interested.

Each packet contains 25+ fresh seeds. These were gathered from a Bloodgood Japanese Maple that is approximately 20 years old. These are fresh seed that were gathered November , 2012. The seeds were carefully placed in plastic zip packets and refrigerated to assure their freshness.

The seeds have a 98% - 99% germination rate as evidenced by the rate of germination of last year’s harvest.
The seeds will come with complete instructions for stratification and propagation of the seedlings. Please note that the Japanese maple that will grow from these seeds will not be a true Bloodgood, Though trees grown from seed can and often do have the parents traits, you will usually grow seedlings that tend to be faster growing, stronger and more drought tolerant than the cultivars and many are just as interesting. Most of my seedlings from years past have the parent tree coloring and do resemble it.
The "Bloodgood" Japanese maple is one of the most popular Japanese maple tree cultivars. This fall foliage standout can be grown in zones 5 thru 8 and attains a maximum size of about 20' x 25'. It likes sun but can profit from a bit of light shade. Its leaves in summer are a reddish-purple.
At fall foliage time those leaves become a striking crimson. These trees emerge in the spring with deep blood-red leaves and stay red throughout most of the summer. In fall they are once again a showpiece of the most brilliant color you can imagine.
