iyiyii answers questions

iyiyii is a pin board type blog or ezine

iyiyii answers questions and help others get answers and information that hopefully they find useful. It suits the author to occasionally add whimsical and/or enlightening posts.

The iyiyii Blog-azine was set up just to have a place to say anything and everything. The Blog that allows you to write about anything that’s on your mind. Keep it tasteful and fun. We can write our thoughts and not worry about anyone blasting back at us. Rambling on and on is good, Opinions are welcome, long winded is fine, curt is ok and of course meaningful is certainly a consideration. That’s my stance and I’m sticking to it.

The name iyiyii was taken from an expression I often heard as a child and I must admit, I still use it occasionally. It translates to “Oh my goodness”, “oh dear”, “wow”, “crazy”, “outrageous”, etc. It was an expression Ricky Ricardo used on the sitcom I Love Lucy. It was typically used when someone did something out of the ordinary– most notably Lucy Ricardo.

Japanese Red Maple Seeds for Sale

My most favorite pastime is propagating and cultivating Japanese Red Maple Trees. I just harvested 100's of seeds from my 20 year old "Bloodgood" and have made up packets for those that may be interested.

Each packet contains 25+ fresh seeds. These were gathered from a Bloodgood Japanese Maple that is approximately 20 years old. These are fresh seed that were gathered November , 2012. The seeds were carefully placed in plastic zip packets and refrigerated to assure their freshness.

The seeds have a 98% - 99% germination rate as evidenced by the rate of germination of last year’s harvest.
The seeds will come with complete instructions for stratification and propagation of the seedlings. Please note that the Japanese maple that will grow from these seeds will not be a true Bloodgood, Though trees grown from seed can and often do have the parents traits, you will usually grow seedlings that tend to be faster growing, stronger and more drought tolerant than the cultivars and many are just as interesting. Most of my seedlings from years past have the parent tree coloring and do resemble it.
The "Bloodgood" Japanese maple is one of the most popular Japanese maple tree cultivars. This fall foliage standout can be grown in zones 5 thru 8 and attains a maximum size of about 20' x 25'. It likes sun but can profit from a bit of light shade. Its leaves in summer are a reddish-purple.
At fall foliage time those leaves become a striking crimson. These trees emerge in the spring with deep blood-red leaves and stay red throughout most of the summer. In fall they are once again a showpiece of the most brilliant color you can imagine.

Find Electronic CigaretteThe Vapor Shack

While there are several different models of personal vaporizers, or electronic cigarettes, on the market, there are a few main types. All are comprised of the same basic components, with some minor differences.

Components

e cigarette components battery, atomizer,cartridge

The largest component is the rechargeable Lithium-Ion battery, similar to one you might find in a mobile phone or laptop computer. The next part is the atomizer, or vaporizer. This is activated by inhaling on the cartridge end or by holding a manual switch, depending on your model. On a pen-style electronic cigarette, the atomizer is contained in a metal tube that looks a lot like a cigarette holder, where they're far more hidden on a mini or super-mini ecig. The atomizer instantly heats the liquid into a vapor, which lingers in the air for just moments after exhaling. The final piece is the cartridge. The cartridge is the mouthpiece. On minis and super-minis, it's often made to look just like the filter of a regular cigarette. Inside the cartridge is a polyester fill material which holds the earlier mentioned solution.

Pen-Style

dse801 pen-style e cigarette

The first type of electronic cigarette created. They have the appearance of a cigarette in a holder, like the ones popular from the 1920's to the 1960's. These have a large, standardized cartridge that holds about 1.3mL of juice. The DSE 801 is an example of this type.

Mini

A compromise between physical size and liquid capacity/battery life. These generally look quite a bit more like a traditional cigarette, but are still slightly larger. Mini cartridges vary greatly, but usually contain between .5mL to 1mL of juice.
The DSE 901 is an example of this type.

Supermini

Frequently almost the same size as a traditional cigarette, this hardware has smaller capacity cartridges and batteries. The batteries do, however, charge significantly faster than other types. Supermini cartridges also vary greatly, holding between .2mL and .5mL of juice.

Electronic Cigar

The e-cigar looks similar to a cigar. Thicker around than most other e-cigs, they employ a similar cartridge to the pen-style, with a greater capacity. E-cigars can sometimes hold as much as 1.5mL of juice. There are also disposable e-cigars available, which look similar to an actual cigar with no external mouthpiece.

E-Pipe

electronic pipe starter kit
As the name may suggest, these look just like a pipe. They have big cartridges, but blanks aren't quite as readily available as the rest of the styles. The cartridges hold more than 2mL of juice at a time.

Disposable

disposable e cigarette
There are many shapes and sizes of disposable e-cigarettes & e-cigars on the market. These aren't refillable, and should always be disposed of responsibly when used up.There are many shapes and sizes of disposable e-cigarettes & e-cigars on the market. Plan an Affordable Vacation

In hard times such as this we have to get more creative. All of us need time away from work. All of us need to have some fun time in a stressful world. This is where our imagination can really help us. Plan a vacation at home.

Vacationing at home sometimes is as much as much fun as going away for a week or so. Vacationing at home can vary from setting up a portable pool in the backyard for yourself and the kids pretending you're at the beach to taking day trips enjoying local sites.

For those who don't have children at home (or if you do, hire a babysitter), take a tour at a vineyard in the area and don't forget the tasting afterwards! A bottle of wine, some cheeses, fresh fruit and sweet nibbles have the makings of a perfect picnic. In planning your home vacation, do the same things you would plan before any other get away such as clean the house, do the laundry, mow the lawn, etc. The computer and cell phones should have a break, too. Let the answering machine or voice mail catch those people who don't know you're on vacation. It's a getaway time, no work!

Here are other fun things perfect for a home vacation:

- Schedule a massage or facial
- Eat out or order delivery
- Hire a sitter for the kids and have a date night
- One day have a DVD marathon (especially good if it is a rainy day)
- Create a theme by renting DVD's set in specific areas
- Extended family cookout
- Read a book

- Keep coffee, juice, water and snacks on hand
- Visit a nearby museum or zoo
- Go for a drive and eat out
- Visit stores/shops that you don't usually visit
- Check out your area to see if there are any community activities going on-such as free concerts,
openings, and don't forget to check out the library for story time
- Check to see if your area offers any outdoor activities or dramas
- Take a cooking class and show off your new skills at home by preparing those dishes

Do it now... take the time... do yourself and loved ones a favor

Growing Japanese Red Maples from Seeds

Growing Japanese Red Maples from Seeds

Given the fact that Japanese maples are incredibly expensive, It is not surprising that, like me, you may have an interest in propagating them yourself. Unfortunately while it looks like growing trees from seed (given proper stratification) and getting them as seedlings from the base of trees is not too difficult, there is a problem with the cultivars breeding true. I probably have 50 or so of these trees that were grown from seed and all of them are beautiful. I love them all whether seedling or grafted variety. They are all strikingly beautiful.

If your Japanese Red Maple seeds arrive to you with the wing still attached to the seed and you live between Zones 4-9, then your seeds are ready for planting.  It is suggested that you plant the seeds outside shortly after they arrive.  If you cannot plant them right a way, then keep them in the Ziploc bag they were shipped in and store them in the refrigerator.  It is essential that you plant the seeds outside as soon as possible.  This will allow Mother Nature to stratify your seeds naturally. Prepare a seed bed outside using any ordinary store bought potting soil or good garden soil.  Even if the ground is frozen or you have snow on the ground, your seeds will be fine.  Plant the seeds no deeper than twice the diameter of the seed.  Don’t over crowd the seed because if planted too close, they may “damp-off” (the principle killer of young seedlings).  Once the springtime comes and the soil thaws out, you will need to keep the seedbed moist.  A plastic tent covering on the seedbed is always beneficial because it is very important to keep the humidity high.  After the seeds have germinated for a couple of weeks, remove the plastic covering.  The seedlings can now be cared for in the same way as all adult Japanese Maple Trees.  These deciduous trees are hardy between Zones 4-9.

If your Japanese Red Maple seeds are shipped to you de-winged or you live between Zones 8-9, then do the following:  The seeds should be placed in warm water as soon as they arrive.  Heat 1 –2 cups of water to approximately 120 - 150 degrees F, but not boiling.  Pour the water into a thermos or a cooler or anything that will keep the heat in.  Place the seeds into the water and allow them to soak for 24 hours.  After 24 hours, use a strainer to drain the water and separate the seeds.  Place seeds in a cup with household peroxide for 2 hours. Rinse. The seeds should now be placed into a Ziploc bag containing a handful of peat moss or potting soil.  Mix the seeds with the peat moss or soil.  The seeds in the Ziploc should be damp, but not wet.  Place the Ziploc into your refrigerator.  The seed should be kept in the refrigerator for 90-150 days.  This is called moist stratification.  When it is convenient, take the seeds out of the refrigerator and plant them either indoors or outdoors.  Plant the seeds no deeper than twice the diameter of the seed.  Don’t over crowd the seed because if planted too close, they may “damp-off” (the principle killer of young seedlings).  Whether indoors or outdoors, the soil to be used should be kept damp but not soaking wet.  A plastic tent covering on the seedbed is always beneficial because it is very important to keep the humidity high.  After the seeds have germinated for a couple of weeks, remove the plastic covering.  The seedlings can now be cared for in the same way as all adult Japanese Maple Trees.

Go out there and get started now.
